New River Library Blog: teen program

The Teen Advisory Board (TAB) helps the library determine all the great programs it should put on for the 11-18 crowd. TAB members earn community service hours just by attending meetings and offering their thoughts and opinions. Plus, members get to be the first to know about all the other volunteer opportunities available in the library. The Friends of the Library provide free snacks and drinks, so come hungry and be ready to have your voice heard! We usually have fun activities following the meetings (like art contests, talent shows, gaming nights etc.). TAB is for grades 6 - 12.

May 5th at 6:00pm -  Anime Club starts after the meeting.
May 19th at 6:00pm - Gaming Night starts after the meeting.

Teens (Grades 6-12), come to the TAB

give us your programming ideas. 

Then stay for Teen Minute to Win It! 

It's fun, looks easy, but isn't as easy as it looks! 

Prizes for winners of each game, and 

refreshments, all provided by our 

generous Friends of the

Valentines Day comes in February and our favorite part of Valentines Day is the chocolate. So let's skip to the fun part. What could be better than a chocolate fountain? We will be be having a Chocolate Extravaganza following the Teen Advisory Meeting on Thursday Feb 17th at 6:30pm.
                                         (For grades 6-12)

What can you do on a cool fall Saturday?

Come to our Teen/Tween Field Day on 

     November 13th @ 11:00am.  

We'll have tug -o-war, kickball, frisbee, a balloon 

toss, a three-legged race, and many more games. 

As usual, we will provide lunch and sodas.

Watch and discuss your favorite Anime series at our Anime and Manga Club Meetings. 

There are lots of laughs and fun, drawings for prizes, and Japanese snacks.

      Teen Monster Dance

Saturday, October 30th from 6pm - 9pm

Dress as your favorite monster and dance like an Egyptian!


         Pizza and soda will be provided.

Sidewalk art challenge! 

Decorate our sidewalks with your creative designs and then enjoy a root beer float. 

This program is part of the teen Summer Reading Program.

What could be more fun than creating your own main dish, dessert, and fruit drink? Well, eating it of course! Come share your culinary talents at our sea themed Iron Chef competition. After our judges pick the winning dishes, everyone gets to eat their creation! Here are some pictures from our last Iron Chef competition:

Want to learn about what it was like to be a pirate? Come join us for a swashbuckling good time, as Paul Stonebridge and Jody Carroll of Four Horseman Fantasy Combat demonstrate pirate combat and introduce you to pirate lore! This program is part of the "Make Waves Summer Reading Program" for Teens.

Dress as a pirate and remember to say "Arrr!" at the Teen Pirate Dance. This is our kick-off program for the Summer Reading Program - "Make Waves @ Your Library". The dance will be held Saturday, June 5th from 6:00pm to 9:00pm. You can learn pirate speak here. 

Ron Collins of Tampa Taiko will be describing the history and culture of Japanese Taiko Drumming and will give a demonstration of Taiko Drumming. The program will be interactive, with audience participation. Come join us for a fun and informative program!
